The coldness of winter…

We are almost there. Winter is coming, Christmas too. I want coldness and snow!

After a very warm autumn, I’m thrill to embrace winter, the cold weather, Christmas, some snow, hot chocolate, an afternoon by the fireplace and lots of fun and laughs inside the house. It is so sweet to have the time to daydream...and this is how my winter daydream looks like.

Smelling Christmas

It’s sweet, it’s merry, it’s childish and it’s joyful. It’s time to start decorating for Christmas!!! Everywhere I look, I see Christmas. But what kind of Christmas do I want this year? In fact, since I moved in the “new” house in the country, I knew that Christmas would be white, country and even rustic but with a touch of sophistication…and that would be brought by gold.

This is where my inspiration may come from this year. Enjoy.

Party of the month: It’s Thanksgiving time!

It is that time of the year already. The “Beaujolais Nouveau” has passed (I’m in France after all) and the time to give thanks arrived. This year I decided to celebrate it on my own way. I may not be American or live in the US, I still think that it is a great opportunity to say thank you for everything that happened this pass year and I decide to make my own little dinner. It will not be as fashionable as the pictures on this post but it will come from the heart. Thank you to all of you for discovering, reading and following “Linen and Stripes” in one or another way. I’m so happy to be a tiny part of your lives, too. Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend!!!

Winter is coming

The weather is getting colder and colder around here. Some leaves are still standing on the trees but you can tell that they will not stay there so much longer. The days are getting shorter and shorter. I’m enjoying the sounds of the fire in my living room’s fireplace while writing this post. I even catch myself thinking about Christmas time and the decorations I’m going to make this year in my “new” 18th century country home. Ok, that’s not true, I’ve been thinking about it for a month already. I’m one of those people who LOVE Christmas and all the things that go around it. But I’ll let that for another day. Right now I just want to enjoy the thought of everything I like about winter and the cold weather.

Happy Friday … wear your tutus!

Maybe because it’s Friday, maybe because I’m in a girly mood…today, I feel like wearing tutus. Especially if they look as good as this gorgeous dress.

Or as fun and playful as this combo.

Or just to relax and show up the Louboutins…

Color me: Gray-t

When it comes to color, there is no neutral that can inspire more than gray. From the softest shadow of pearl to the most overpower shade of the anthracite gray. From the classical feeling to the modern irreverence of it. Gray has always been and remains “the master” color of all times.

Gray can get sick but will never die. It’s loved by men but also women. It’s the center stage of the room when given the power. It’s the perfect basic canvas to make any other color shine. It’s the perfect catch to enlighten or shadowy a place. It will always shine someplace on earth.
To the gray-test color of all!

Cooking time: Apple pie, please

Apples are the best when it comes to pie. Who could resist a beautiful “tarte tatin”? Definitely not me!!!

But when I came across this “Apple rosette pie” I knew I found something perfect for my taste and I needed to share it with all of you to try on your own. Don’t get afraid about the language, the online free translations work pretty well in these cases…
Enjoy!

Happy Friday: A weekend in the country

This is what I like the most, a relaxing weekend in the country! Especially when that happens in France, and on top of that with good company.

We’ll be walking around the woods, going to the local market and fair, horseback riding with the kids, eating home cooked hearty meals and, of course, having fun altogether!

I may be wearing something like that for dinner

Hopefully the weather will let us do as much outdoorsy playing as we’ll like to but, if not, there is always a plan B for playing inside our big-enough house.
Happy Friday!

Magazine talk: whimsy and colorful spaces

When it comes to decorations, trends tend to go from colorful to neutral and to colorful again. That is the case right now. Colors are back and this time they come along with a whimsy twist. Even if I’m not a very colorful type of gal, I have to say that my eyes are drown to this fun, shiny and refreshing trend…even if I know it’ll not last enough to convince me to switch to it! Have a fun a colorful week!
